Our Approach

At New View Psychology Group, our approach to treatment is personalized, evidence-based, and holistic. We believe that every person is unique and requires an individualized treatment plan to achieve their goals. That’s why we take the time to understand your needs and create a plan that is tailored to your specific situation.

Our therapists are trained in evidence-based therapies, which means that we use techniques that have been scientifically proven to be effective in treating mental health issues. We use a variety of evidence-based techniques, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, and positive psychology, to help you develop the skills you need to overcome your challenges.

We also take a holistic approach to treatment, which means that we consider all aspects of your life that may be impacting your mental health. This includes your physical health, relationships, career, and spiritual well-being. By taking a holistic approach, we can create a comprehensive treatment plan that addresses all areas of your life and helps you achieve a sense of balance and well-being.

Treatment Modalities

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a structured, evidence-based treatment that focuses on the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. CBT helps individuals identify and challenge negative or unhelpful thinking patterns that contribute to emotional distress or maladaptive behaviors. Through a collaborative process, clients learn to reframe these thoughts and develop healthier coping strategies to manage issues like anxiety, depression, stress, and more. CBT is highly goal-oriented and practical, with a focus on problem-solving in the here and now, making it effective for a wide range of mental health challenges.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness therapy emphasizes the practice of paying attention to the present moment in a calm, non-judgmental way. By focusing on one's breath, thoughts, sensations, or surroundings, mindfulness helps individuals become more aware of their internal and external experiences without being overwhelmed by them. This approach has been shown to reduce stress, improve emotional regulation, and foster a greater sense of well-being. Mindfulness-based interventions are often used to treat conditions like anxiety, depression, and chronic stress, helping individuals break free from rumination and emotional reactivity, and fostering a deeper sense of peace and balance in daily life.

Exposure Therapy

Exposure therapy is an evidence-based treatment designed to help individuals confront and overcome fears, phobias, or anxieties by gradually exposing them to the things they avoid. This process can involve real-life exposure (in vivo), imaginal exposure (visualizing the feared object or situation), or even virtual reality, depending on the context. The gradual, repeated exposure allows the client to experience the fear without the anticipated negative outcome, reducing anxiety over time. Exposure therapy is particularly effective for treating anxiety disorders, including PTSD, OCD, phobias, and panic disorders, as it helps individuals retrain their brain's response to previously distressing stimuli.

Social Skills Training

Social skills training is a therapeutic approach designed to help individuals, especially those with social anxiety or deficits, improve communication, build relationships, and navigate social situations more effectively. It is useful for treating conditions like social anxiety, autism, depression, and substance use disorders. Through techniques like role-playing, modeling, and feedback, individuals learn to interpret social cues, develop communication skills, and manage conflict. This training boosts self-esteem, reduces social anxiety, and enhances overall well-being by improving social functioning and building positive relationships.

Positive Psychology

Positive psychology focuses on enhancing well-being by cultivating a strengths-based, solution-focused approach. Instead of solely addressing what’s wrong or problematic, this therapeutic approach encourages individuals to focus on what’s right: their personal strengths, virtues, and sources of joy and fulfillment. Techniques used in positive psychology aim to increase happiness, optimism, gratitude, and resilience, helping individuals build a flourishing life rather than simply reducing symptoms. This modality is especially useful for individuals seeking personal growth, improved life satisfaction, or those looking to enhance their emotional and psychological well-being by focusing on their potential for positive change and fulfillment.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a specialized therapeutic technique primarily used to treat trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). EMDR helps individuals process and integrate distressing memories, often by having them recall traumatic experiences while engaging in guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation. This process helps "reprocess" traumatic memories so they lose their emotional charge and become less distressing over time. EMDR has been shown to be particularly effective for trauma, as it allows individuals to address unresolved emotional pain without having to talk in detail about their experiences, making it a powerful tool for healing from past trauma.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a mindfulness-based approach that encourages individuals to accept difficult emotions and thoughts rather than trying to avoid or control them. ACT focuses on helping individuals clarify their values and take committed action in alignment with those values, even in the presence of emotional discomfort. Through mindfulness practices, clients learn to observe their thoughts and feelings without judgment, fostering psychological flexibility. ACT is particularly effective for treating anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and stress, as it emphasizes living a meaningful life by accepting what cannot be changed while actively working towards personal growth and fulfillment.

Couples Counseling

Couples counseling is a therapeutic process that helps partners improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen their emotional connection. Through guided sessions with a trained therapist, couples explore the dynamics of their relationship, identify patterns that may be contributing to misunderstandings or tension, and work together to develop healthier ways of interacting. Techniques may include improving active listening, fostering empathy, and learning effective problem-solving strategies. Couples counseling is beneficial for addressing a wide range of issues, including recurring conflicts, intimacy concerns, and major life transitions. The goal is to help partners build a more supportive, fulfilling relationship by enhancing trust, communication, and mutual respect.
